Okay...I just read Fairy Tail Chapter 488...and I wanna cry!
Gosh! I hate this! For so many reasons! And I will list off the reasons why, as well as certain reasons why I believe Gajeel will return.
First off...the reasons I hate this turn.
1) Okay...I'll say it right out. Gajeel and Levy's relationship reminds me so much of me and my darling soulmate. When I first met him, many people were afraid of him because he was the kid who dressed in dark clothes and sat alone on the bus. Heck, even doctors when he was little thought he was going to be mentally handicapped all his life but he's practically a mechanical genius. I was/am the tiny bookworm who loves to write and read (I guiltily admit that there are times when I read fanfics and let it distract me from my writing). But we manage to make it work, but like how Gajeel and Levy make it work. Plus, my beloved and I have our own little "Pantherlily" a Fennec Fox plushie named Finn. So Levy and Gajeel's relationship has always had a special place in my heart. Aside from that, my boyfriend is just as protective of me and my family as Gajeel is of Levy and Fairy Tail.
2) Gajeel's grown while being with Levy. I mean if you've read the manga chapter I'm talking about, he admitted it himself. He said that he started thinking like an adult (Plus I'm guessing he was around 19 when we first met him but that's not for now). And aside from that, Gajeel went from someone we hated because of his brutal attacks on Levy, Jet, Droy, and Lucy, to someone we adored and loved (at least as far as I go, and I love to say, "To each, their own.") and for me, it didn't take too long. But what made me care about him so quickly was the fact that almost immediately upon joining the Guild, he seems to have become protective of Levy. Sure she can handle herself to an extent and he lets her, but when she obviously can't handle a situation, he's there like a knight in iron armor (LOL I crack myself up. FOCUS!).
3) Gajeel wanted a future with Levy. Again, if you read this heartbreaking chapter, you know what I mean. Gajeel wanted to settle down with Levy and start a family, have kids (BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mirajane would lose it LOL. Focus!) At any rate, he wanted to be with her.
Now...Reasons why I believe Gajeel will be coming back! Yay!
1) Hiro Mashima says he wants to stay away from Rave Master endings. So I never watched Rave Master, heck I only ever watched the OVA crossing the two together but that's not for now. As far as I'm aware, Rave Master was a fantastic anime that ended with the death of the male protagonist and romantic interest of the main female protagonist, right? If I'm right then I hope and pray he's actually going to follow through with this and not kill Natsu and/or Lucy and for that matter I hope and pray that so many other characters, including Gajeel, end up alright after this insanity.
2) Gajeel pretty much "died" in a hole. He deserves a more dignified death. I mean...come on, he's a DRAGON SLAYER! Hiro has yet to actually kill any other Dragon Slayers but each of them has this unique air of dignity and certain levels are expected. Although Gajeel's element is Iron, which many believe to be linked to Earth Magic in some way, shape or form, he does not deserve to die IN A HOLE!
3) Gajeel and Levy are beloved by many readers and he brought back Lisanna just because his audience wanted it. I mean, I have heard from many, many sources that Hiro actually doesn't like Lisanna and only brought her back because his audience wanted it. Yes, she is a childhood friend of Natsu but I can see where Hiro's dislike kinda comes from (if he's thinking anything like me but I'll get into all that another time). The point is, if enough people want Gajeel back, I think Hiro will bring him back to be with Levy.
4) Gajeel basically became Anti-Magic Particles because of the iron in them. Couldn't he just re-form himself? Like, his mind was still able to send messages to the muscles in his face to smirk as he "died" even though his smile was the only thing left. In that case, wouldn't it make sense that Gajeel could take the iron in the Magic Barrier Particles and re-form his body and return to Levy? Unless he actually is already reformed in Hell and just needs a rescue team to get him (Cough cough Gray possibly could Cough cough)

So that's my theory about Gajeel as to why I hate this part of the story and reasons why I believe Gajeel could return. If you have any questions, just send me a comment and I'll respond as quick as I can. Later everyone! Let us all take a moment of silence for Gajeel Redfox's great sacrifice for the love of his life and hope and pray he comes out of this in one piece.

Hello!
I wonder too if Gajeel will come back and like you, I hate how the situation turns out. But I don't want Mashima to bring him back (or he has to have a fu*** good reason, not just because the fans want it, it would be a mistake). I don't want because (even if it's Fairy Tail) they are fighting some very powerful mages and until now, everything went way too easily. I mean, some of them are wounded, but they won all the battle pretty fast.
In addition, in the last chapter, he really said farewell to Levy (and Lily) in a so perfect way, that it would be too bad if it wasn't for real. Acnologia seems to know what happens on all the battlefield and he thinks that Gajeel died. Maybe it is just to reinforce the idea that he is dead and Acnologia is wrong, but he is a so powerful that it may be hard to believe.
About Rave, they all died in the last battle (if I remember well), but in the end, they all come back safe and sound because a huge magic power saves them. (with an explication like "they are all ok because the destiny wanted them to" (but Rave is an excellent manga anyways))

On the other hand, I would absolutly love that Gajeel comes back and lives with Levy!! Come on, that's not fair. Mashima named the chapter "The two of us... together... forever... and always", they shouldn't end like this!!

Sorry if it makes a pretty big comment Sweating a little...  I hope it doesn't bother you
